My Experiences in the Vending Business

When I originally started in vending back in November of 2007, it was my goal to eventually do vending full time. My plan was to keep reinvesting all my profits in new machines and expand as quickly as possible. I was going to do all this part time while keeping my day job of course and I hoped to achieve this lofty goal in about two years. Well as you may have already guessed, this never came to pass. I’m still in the vending machine business and I’m still hoping to go full time, but I still have a long way to go.

Buying A Vending Machine Route

Buying an already existing vending route is a great way to expand your business quickly. Craig’s List is a great place to buy both routes and used vending machines. Before buying an already existing route, there are a few considerations that need to be taken into account. The general rule of thumb in buying an established vending machine route is to pay only the value of the used machines. Most sellers obviously want to get the maximum amount for their route and will put a premium on the value and age of their accounts. For our buying purposes, it is best to assume everything they are saying is exaggerated and/or untrue. I know this sounds harsh, but unless they can provide you with IRS tax documents (and I assure you, they won’t) then the absolute value of their route is the value of the machines alone.
