Resveratrol Supplements for Fast Fitness

As a new year is upon us, many people find themselves in the position of performing an annual ritual known as New Year’s Resolutions.  More often than not, this involves some sort of health and fitness angle to it.  For example, a very common one is to lose weight and or to simply ‘get healthier’.  Variations on that theme include more specific points such as eating healthier (maybe incorporating more leafy greens into one’s diet), getting more exercise, being able to run x number of miles (or perhaps a 5k race or a half marathon, or some such goal).  A fairly common goal, whether it is verbalized as such or not, is to simply ‘look good’ with your shirt off and figure out how to get a six pack fast (for guys, or in a bikini or bathing suit for women).  Whatever the resolution is, it all comes down to the same basic thing to achieve it though, right?  More exercise, more effort and less food.

Well, not necessarily.

Of course those things are critical.  You can’t simply remain on the couch eating bags and bags of potato chips and pizza and expect to get up from the couch looking like some kind of magazine cover model hard body.  Please tell me you realize at least that much!

However, there are many, many stories of people trying all different approaches to ‘looking good’ and ‘getting fit’ that simply have not worked out very well for them.  It’s not that they don’t put in the effort, at least for a while.  And often times it is for a pretty significantly long period of time.  We’re talking months and months.

Sure, most of the time they see some kind of results at the beginning, but it usually doesn’t progress much from there.  No matter how much they go to the gym, get on the treadmill, lift weights and watch what they eat, they just sort of stop making progress. I know I’ve been there many times.  In fact, just about every year I find myself in the same situation!

I start the year with all good intentions, and usually stick with it for a long time.  In fact, probably the majority of the year you can find me in the gym a few days per week.  I do OK, but despite all my efforts, I never really get past a certain sticking point in dropping fat or gaining muscle.  Usually, by late fall, things get busy in my life and I start to neglect the workouts.  I see my waist line getting bigger and my arms and chest getting smaller.  All that effort of the previous 9 or 10 months is just down the drain.  It’s frustrating, and I know I’m not alone in the experience.

As a matte of fact, I know I’m not alone because my best friend and I usually have the exact same experience as we work out together.  Therefore, as one of us is making progress, so is the other.  And as things get busy, we both slack off at the same time and experience the same losses of muscle mass.  That is, until this year.

My buddy had a reunion coming up in January, so in the late fall, when I started to slack off, he stuck with it.  Up until that point we were pretty much same old, same old as far as our progress.  We were doing OK, but nothing spectacular.  I just saw him the other day and while I have added fat and lost muscle from our ‘plateau’, he has lost more fat and added more muscle in the past 2 or 3 months than either of us had in the entire previous 10 months!  I had to know what was going on…

He told me that the only thing he has done differently is to add resveratrol supplement to his daily routine.  I had heard of resveratrol, but didn’t know a whole lot about it.  I knew there were some pretty impressive claims out there about the health benefits of it, everything from shedding fat and gaining muscle to prolonging life through fighting chronic diseases like cancer, heart disease and Alzheimer’s.  I knew it had to do with the health benefits of red wine, or something in red wine, but that was about it.  I pretty much brushed it off as a bunch of hype; you know, the next ‘grapefruit diet’ kind of thing.

But looking t my best friend whom I trust completely, and him telling me that the only thing he’s doing different from what we have done for years is adding a resveratrol supplement, I had to look into it further.  As I do, I’m pretty excited about the fact that it’s the start of a new year, because I see this one panning out quite a bit differently than those in the past.  I mean if I can see the kind of results he is getting in the amount of time it took him, I have no doubt that I’ll remain motivated to keep pushing forward.  And who knows, maybe this year, when it’s time to take my shirt off, I WILL be looking like one of those guys on the cover of the magazine!
