Use mild detergent with a rag or scrub brush when washing the bench to make sure you are cleaning deep and well enough into the cracks and crevices. After washing it down with the mild detergent be sure to rinse the soap or any other residue off so you don’t dull the finish. Then follow with a wire brush to rub off loose paint chips or rust that is eroding the bench. If using the wire brush doesn’t work then you may need to use a commercial brand rust remover to remove the rust. Once this is done you are ready to refinish your bench. Remember to paint the metal garden bench with a rust resistant spray paint.
