IBS or Something More?

If you’re suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome, you should really look into what specific conditions could be at its source. Unfortunately these days, labeling something IBS is often just a catch-all when your doctor can’t figure out what’s really going on.

So it becomes your responsibility to do some leading research and then seek to discuss your research with a specialist, not just your primary care physician. Among things IBS often masks are colitis, ulcerative colitis and crone’s disease. The tests required to diagnose these problems aren’t pleasant, but it is better to knowledgeably address your problems then let them have their way with you.

IBS can also be among the symptoms of gluten intolerance or celiac disease. In most cases this can be determined with simple blood work ordered by your primary care physician, so it is worth mentioning when you see him or her.

Of course determining you have celiac disease is only the beginning of that journey, but you can live in misery your whole life if you never diagnose it. So empower yourself with some ideas for your doctor before you just accept a general diagnosis of IBS.
