How Does Hair Grafting Work

Hair grafting is another name for the very popular hair restoration and replacement procedure known as hair implantation or hair transplantation. This method of treating baldness and hair thinning is gaining more and more satisfied customers as the way to get hair growing in a bald spot or spots on the head. The theory behind hair grafting is really quite simple but the practice takes quite a bit of training to perfect.

The idea for transplanting hair from one area of the head to another actually was first explored in Japan during the 1930’s. At this time, women were concerned about modifying the look of their eyebrows and men were interested in improving the growth of their facial hair so most of the work was devoted to these two areas. It wasn’t until the 1950’s in the US that surgeons began to use hair grafts as a way to transplant hair into a balding area on the head.

This procedure is so effective at treating hair loss for one simple reason. Due to the nature of hair loss in men, about 95% of men who are suffering this embarrassment have a condition known as male pattern baldness, the men experience bald patches on the top and front of the scalp. This leaves good hair growth at the back of the head which can be grafted into the area with thinning hair. The hair restoration surgeon will actually remove some of the growing hair follicles at the back of the scalp and implant them onto the top of the head. Once grafted in, the hair will continue to grow as normal and the surgery is basically unnoticeable because the hair is your own.

If you are having balding issues then hair grafts will probably help. They have given thousands of men a new head of hair that looks completely natural.
