How Do Incisions Work With Liposculpture Cosmetic Surgery?

Incisions are a fancy – and better sounding! – word for making little cuts into the flesh of a patient. In the case of cosmetic surgery, and more specifically, liposculpture, in which a surgeon removes fat from a patients body – the incisions must be done in order to insert the necessary instruments into the flesh to perform the surgery.

It is not as bad as it sounds though.

The incisions are more like tiny little cuts, usually no more than a quarter or half an inch in size. They are only as big as they need to be for the cannula (the instrument used to break up and remove body fat) to go through, and most every cannula is very small in diameter.

Furthermore, with the risk of scarring or long term marks in mind, surgeons will do what they can to place incisions into naturally present folds and wrinkles in the skin. Basically, this means they will essentially hide the incisions in the skin so that they are largely invisible to any casual glance or viewing of the body.

After surgery, the incisions are left open just a little bit so that fluid can naturally drain from the body, causing a decrease in the amount of bruising experienced in the post surgery recovery period.
