Get Hip with Thigh High Boots

Thigh high boots, also referred to as thigh length boots, are back in vogue. They were featured prominently during the fall 2009 season, with many diverse major fashion designers showcasing them as a part of their fall collections. While it is true that in years past this style of boot was very often associated with some of the less ‘prurient’ members of society, this is no longer the case. In fact, you can now find women of all walks of life and lifestyles proudly wearing these fun boots.

Thigh high boots differ from knee high boots in that they are longer than standard knee boots. Thigh high boots don’t stop just below, at, or even just above the knee… they go mid-way up the thigh. More often than not, this kind of boot was previously made of a kind of synthetic material and usually was found in either black or white or perhaps some bright color. However, now they are made from a variety of material including leather, suede and patent leather. In fact, some women use thigh high socks or stockings made from silk or polyester that give the same look as a thigh high boot, but without the full expense. If you want your thigh high boots to be made from real leather, you better be prepared to spend a decent chunk of change. You may also need to go to a designer boutique in order to find what you’re looking for.

For the most part, when you have boots that are this long, they come with zippers or laces to make putting them on or taking them off easier. Some variations of these boots however do come as a purely pull-on, pull-off option. For this variety, the material must be quite soft and pliable in order to make it possible to pull them on. The shape, weight and height of the heel design is another variable on this kind of footwear. It used to be that pretty much any thigh high boot came automatically with either very high heels, very spiked heels, or both. Today you have a choice of everything from those traditional options to short, wide flat heels, stiletto styles, and everything else in between.

Long before this style of boot made it to the average woman’s wardrobe, you could see them on rock and roll stars or on movie characters, such as the one Julia Roberts played in “Pretty Woman”. What are some other places where thigh highs have been noted? During the photo shoot for the 25th Anniversary Playboy magazine, white thigh high boots were all there was for ‘wardrobe’. More recently, Michelle Obama set tongues wagging when she ordered two pair of thigh high boots from France. The good news is that you no longer need to be amongst the rich and famous to get into these kinds of boots. You can find them in many department stores, shoe stores, boutiques and of course on-line at stores such as Zappos, Amazon and Ebay.

You can wear your new thigh high boots with everything from jeans to short skirts. Some women like to have thigh high socks along with them. Some people think that these boots are only for the young, skinny girls, but that is simply not the truth. Even more voluptuous women can look sexy and have fun wearing this style of boot and may wear it with a long, loose fitting top hanging down below their waist. They look fantastic on long legged women but unless you are really very short your height, or lack of it, should not hinder you from trying out the latest fashion of thigh high boots.
