Considerations When Buying A Running Shoe
There are a number of important considerations that should be taken into account when buying a new pair of running shoes. These tips are most important for someone who is new to running and has not bought a pair of shoes specifically for running before. The chances are an experienced runner who has been happy with their shoes will more than likely simply buy the same model that they have had experience with.
You should firstly work out what your foot type is. You may have a high arch, flat feet or a normal arch. Each foot type results in a different foot strike on the ground and will require a different type of shoe. An overpronator will require a shoe that has been designed to offer motion stability, an underpronator will require greater cushioning support and a neutral runner will require a combination of cushioning with a little bit of stability.
When trying on a pair of running shoes, try to do so later in the day. Feet swell throughout the day and will at their maximum size in the afternoon.
A sure way to select the right sized shoe is to be sure that there is approximately half an inch of space between the end of the shoe and your longest toe.
There are many stores that sell running shoes but the best place to go, particularly if you are looking for experienced staff who will give you useful advice, is a specialist running store. By going to a running store you are more likely to find someone who can analyse your stride, your foot strike and your past shoe wear (if you bring along your old shoes) and guide you towards to best shoes for your running style.
Buying a second pair of running shoes will increase the life of both pairs of shoes because by alternating each day you will give your shoes time to dry out and decompress from the day’s run.
There are many factors you might want to consider when buying a pair of running shoes but the most important factor is that you buy a pair that feels comfortable. My personal preference when it comes to the best running shoes for my feet are Asics running shoes but every runner is different.
