Choosing Protective Shutters

There is a category of shutters that is rated by the government as having a storm approval rating. These shutters have been rated to withstand severe winds. There are some vinyl and composite shutters that meet this approval rating but if an individual lives in an extreme weather area they will need to make sure that the exterior shutter they select has the storm approval rating that is appropriate for their area. Most shutters that have this storm rating approval are going to be made out of metal. In fact, nearly all hurricane shutters are made of metal since wood and vinyl would provide limited amounts of protection against high wind and rain.
