An umpire must be able to work with people and communicate effectively. Management and conflict resolution are necessary skills that will help make the umpire more effective when dealing with people. There are organizations that provide training and testing for umpires. At the junior level, the most popular umpiring programs are organized by Little League and Babe Ruth League Baseball.

Umpiring usually begins at the junior leagues that are designed for kids through age 12. The leagues usually ask for volunteers to handle the umpiring duties and provide training for those that has never umpired before. Little League and Babe Ruth League Baseball offer training and testing programs that are required to qualify to umpire in those leagues.

The next level of umpire is at high school and college level. There are intercollegiate associations throughout the country that provide umpires to high schools and colleges and universities. Umpire candidates are required to participate in the training program and pass an on field umpire mechanics test, as well as a written NCAA test. Before umpires will be considered for college umpire assignments, the candidate must have 5 years of high school varsity umpiring experience. Some intercollegiate associations require an umpire candidate have recommendations from at least 3 professional umpires.

Major league sports require umpire candidates to acquire 7 to 10 years of professional umpire experience. The umpire candidate must enroll in a professional umpire program. The program prepares the umpire candidate to participate in the umpire evaluation program. Umpire candidates who pass the evaluation successfully are then qualified to seek employment at the professional level.

In addition to knowing the rules governing the sport and the ability to make instant decisions, sports umpires must be physically fit. Most sports require some running and endurance in order to keep up with the game and sports such as soccer and field hockey require the umpire to be in constant motion. The umpire must be able to remain cool when all others are losing theirs and remain cool under pressure. Umpires must also be willing to participate in umpiring seminars and training clinics from time to time.

I spent 4 weeks with a local retailer demoing game improvement clubs. We started with approximately 16 models and narrowed the field to 5 sets of irons. Ping G and I 5s, Adams A2s, Cobra S9s, Cg4s and CG4 Tours. I was looking for clubs that were a significant improvement over me entry level Wilsons.

The final decision came down to the Ping I5s and the CG4 Tours. In the end I chose the CG4s. They provided a significant improve in distance and were consistently accurate. I have gone from carrying a six iron 160 yds, to 180 yds. In some cases on the simulator and subsequently outdoors on the range I have had 6 irons go a total of 200 yds [carry and roll].

The clubs were custom fitted from Cleveland and came 1/2″ over standard length, 2 degree upright. All the clubs I short listed shared some common characteristics. They feature lighter regular flex shafts and smaller, less offset heads. The light overall weight of the clubs has contributed to more club head speed and increased distance.

I have listed myself as a player that shoots in the 90′s but my scores can range from 78 one week to 98 the next.

Overall I am very please with the CG4s. The recent promotion for the HiBore Driver came about after my purchase and the driver was thrown in as an added bonus. I was fortunate to be able to pick up a 10.5 degree regular flex with the upgraded UST V2 shaft.  I would also recommend looking at a Cleveland Launcher driver and also reading a Cleveland hb3 review. I have heard really good things about it and have also been able to try them out.

Wilma Glodean Rudolph an American athlete was the wonder woman who broke all myths to clinch the first three gold medals in the Olympics. This, she achieved in the year 1960 during the Summer Olympics which were held in Rome after winning 3 track events. It was here that she won the 100m meter race in just 11 seconds possibly a record time but this was disqualified as part of it was aided by the prevailing weather conditions in which there was a lot of wind. Besides this, she won the 200m in just 23.2 seconds another world record. As if that was not enough she got her third gold medal after combining with her teammates Lucinda Williams, Barbara Jones and Martha Hudson to win the 400-meter relay in 44.5 seconds. This elevated her to be considered the fastest woman in history at the time. And if to say “The Tornado” as she was commonly referred to.

Unlike many other athletes in history who all started their career from the word go, Wilma’s childhood was rather troubled as first she was born prematurely and then acquired infantile paralysis which is caused by the polio virus which twisted her leg for quite some years. However her family took her through various medications and she survived all this.

At the age of twelve she finally got herself an opportunity when she was chosen to play basketball for her high school team. It was here that her talent was finally noted by the field coach of her high school. He encouraged her to try out some tracking events besides basketball as he had already noted in her a potential athlete. She decided to give it a try considering that she had already been exposed to athletics having competed in track events earlier on at Burt High School.

After winning the three gold medals in the Olympics, Wilma Rudolph did not slow down as she went on to create a legacy for herself by winning in other various competitions such as the sprinter race in Drake Relays which were held in Des Moines. All this was motivated by her admiration and respect for her icon, the former sprinter Jesse Owens who was always her inspiration whenever she was on the field.

It is no doubt that having been the first woman to win three gold medals in a single Olympics championship she was finally inducted into the Olympics Hall of Fame in 1983 and later the National Women’s Hall of Fame. To crown it all, she was ranked as the best athlete of the twentieth century by the Sports Illustrated magazine.

As fate would have it she finally died in 1994 at the age of 54 but left behind a legacy that no person in history will ever erase.
