Bathing a Horse
Many years ago when I was new to horses, I wanted to learn how to properly give a horse a bath. Little did I know that bathing a horse rarely goes as planned, they have to learn to like it or at least tolerate it. It’s not as easy as turning on a hose and expecting the horse to stand there and take it. I had a friend who offered to teach me how to give a horse a bath as a sort of horse gifts. She rattled off directions to her barn to me, telling me to take the first right after the sign saying cheap freisian horses for sale, then just pull up and park by the barn. Off I went all excited to see how it was done. I arrived to see a variety of shampoos, conditioners, scrub brushes, and other as I was told needed equipment. So much for one horse bath was all I could think. I had no idea what I was in for.
We started out with an old been there done that show horse. He stood patiently and let us spray him down with the hose, pour soap on him, scrub him, rinse him, condition him, rinse him again, and then scrape the water off him. It was easy. After letting him dry for a while, I got the lecture on how it took quite some time to get him to that point. To prove her point, she brought out the yearling for his bath. That little guy did not want to stand still at all. He didn’t like any of it. By the time we were done bathing him, we’d all had a bath. We were wet from head to toe from attempting to follow him with the hose or to get the soap on him. We couldn’t even begin to get his face wet with a wrestling match. A year later that same yearling stood nicely, though reluctantly, for a bath. It only took about 100 baths to get him there. Bathing a horse takes time and patience, if you’re lucky, you’ll get a horse that actually likes it.
A Pet Fountain Can Make A Real Difference In Your Pet’s Health
Pet owners take the responsibility for their pet’s health very seriously. Most do a good job of making sure shots are up to date and their pets are not only as healthy as possible but also don’t pose a threat to other pets or people. One simple thing that all living things need in order to stay healthy is water. Our pets are no different than we are when it comes to hydration. A properly hydrated dog or cat is much less prone to getting sick, while the opposite is true of one that does not get enough water.
The challenge comes when we try to get our pets to drink and they don’t really want to. they don’t understand what is at stake by not drinking enough water. They only know that the bowl of water on the floor is not very interesting and so they just don’t drink from it unless they are very thirsty. We have to find ways to get them to drink even when they are not all that thirsty. Well, the answer to this problem already exists in the form of the pet fountain.
There are many pet fountains on the market today and they are made of different materials and in different shapes. There are fountains like the Drinkwell 360 Pet Fountain, which is one of the only fountains available for multiple pet homes. There are fountains made from ceramic and stainless steel, while most of them are made from some form of plastic. There are cheap versions and much more sturdy and more expensive versions. In short, the pet fountain is much like anything else in that there is a market for them and there are many choices within that market. Choosing the right one for you and your home is up to you.
Luckily, all of the information you need is right here on the internet. There are several good websites that devote themselves entirely to these pet accessories and offer full reviews on all the fountains on the market.
Training Your Dog with a Small Dog Collar
Miniature breeds of dogs are fun to train with a small dog collar. Small dogs are eager to learn obedience from their masters. Whether you have a Chihuahua, toy poodle, or dachshund, these breeds can learn from using a small dog collar. You can find a bunch of information over at Some Dog Collars if this article doesn’t satisfy you.
House Training
Training a dog is best done when they are still a puppy. Start training by keeping an eye on the dog for signs that they need to use the potty. These include scratching, circling, and acting restless.
Take the puppy or dog outdoors by using the small dog collar. Make sure to praise him when he uses the potty. If the dog uses the bathroom inside, say “No!” while the dog is standing in front of the spot. This way he will associate the negative tone in your voice with the mess.
Once the dog is finished with a meal, put on the small dog collar and take her outside. Wait about 10 minutes until they are finished. Praise the dog once they have done their ‘business’ outdoors.
Dog Collars
If you are new to deciding between collars for training, it is easy to select the right one. Choke chains have been the traditional method of training. These are not recommended for small dogs. The damage they can cause is worse for the smaller breeds.
A halter small dog collar is a steady choice for training these breeds. It is gentle and does not cause strain as long as it is not pulled tight or jerked. These keep the small dog in control as you take them outside for walks.
A small dog collar that fits around their neck is another option. Make sure to find one that fits the dog and should leave a finger’s width space around the dog’s neck. Be sure not to loosen it too much since the dog could wriggle out of it. Attach a leash, the small dog collar and your dog is ready to go.
The Basics of Dog Insurance
While dog insurance has been offered in the past two decades, a large number of dog lovers have not availed of this policy yet. Worse, some pet owners have never known that there is such a type of pet insurance specifically offered for dogs.
As a pet owner, you should know that a pet insurance could save you from expensive medical expenses that may be incurred when your dog gets sick. With that said, any dog lover should consider applying for one. Given that dogs are prone to illnesses, as any other animal, high maintenance costs for veterinary care have become a cause of concern for dog owners. Similar to other expenditures related to health care, the expenses of a dog’s health care, may it be emergency or preventative, are always on the rise. With such scenario, pet owners can only hope to get an affordable pet insurance that will protect them against unforeseen veterinary expenses.
The internet is a good place to find affordable pet insurance policies as most insurance companies are promoting their products online. Most of these companies are specifically offering dog insurance for dog lovers. Like a typical health insurance policy, a dog insurance plan has many benefits for a dog and pet owner. Likewise, the higher premiums point to a higher set of benefits for the plan holders.
An average dog insurance policy may range from $20 or higher per month. Most dog insurance plans have an annual benefit limit ranging from $15,000 or higher, while some do not provide a yearly benefit limit at all. Many dog insurance policies have discounts covering numerous pets. The deductible is determined by the plan a pet owner chooses, although the average deductible is about $100 in a year.
A dog insurance policy may also cover medical expenses related to routine procedures. There are plans that have coverage for vaccinations, dental care, check-up, and surgical procedures (such as neutering and spaying), which are ideal for pet lovers who are willing to allot more money for their dogs.
Training My Beagle Puppy
I am considering getting my first dog since we had to bury our family pet back when I was in high school. I have been looking at puppies for months now, and doing all kinds of research on what type of dog will be best for me.
I finally decided that I was going to get a beagle puppy. I have several friends that have beagle puppies, and they always tell me what great dogs they are to have. They are friendly, kind, easy-going, and do not grow-up to be aggressive. After we had various discussion on how wonderful this breed of dog is, I decided this would be the puppy I would get.
I went to my local pet adoption center one Saturday, and luckily there was a small female puppy just waiting for me.I picked her up, signed all of the papers, made sure I scheduled the remainder of her shots, and then we were on the way to her new home.
The first couple of weeks were pure bliss. Having a new puppy in the house to keep you company is always fun. However, it was similar to having a small child as she cried through the nights many times unless I would let her sleep in the bed with me. I soon decided that when people told me that crate training a beagle is best, that they were right. So, the third week I had my new beagle, I started crate training her.
It went well, but I had to be very consistent so that she got used to the routine. After crate training or perhaps at some point at the same time I will also start taking her to obedience training. Beagles are wanderers at heart, so it is very important that you start training them at a very young age.
Havanese Puppy Training
If a lively and healthy havanese puppy has just become a part of your family then it is also time to start the training process. Luckily havanese puppies are gentle and responsive and this should be a very fun task for the entire family. Through the training process you will also find that these puppies will also become very attached to their new family.
When you start to train your puppy first you must consider if you will buy books and do this on your own or if you will participate in a group puppy training course. With this breed of puppies you would have the ability to do either one as they are good students and that get along well with other dogs.
One reason training a havanese puppy can be such a fun task to undertake is because of their intuitive and playful nature. They are very curious and always observe what is going on. They are often very aware of a person’s tone of voice and tend to not respond well to harsher discipline. They are best trained when their owner is calm, good natured, and there to have a fun time like they are. These puppies also don’t bark a lot. It is not their nature. You can train them, but it is better to teach them not to bark unnecessarily while they are young so that it does not become a habit.
Havanese puppies are also typically social, but if they have not been around a lot of other puppies or dogs they may show a small amount of shyness around strangers. This may be one reason for considering group training classes with your puppy.
As with most dog breeds, you will want to start the training process by the time they are at least several months old. You will look forward to training your new havanese addition to your family!
What Type of Chinchilla Cage Should You Buy?
Chinchillas need a certain environment in which to live, not only should you provide an environment which is conducive as much as possible to the natural environment of the chinchilla, you should try and make your chinchilla as comfortable as possible by providing the correct type of chinchilla cage for your new animal. So, with that in mind, let’s go on and look at the different types of cages that you can purchase.
Because your chinchilla is going to be very active, they like to jump and climb a lot, they need to have a lot of room so that it can burn some of that energy off. The more room that you provide for them in a cage the better, this means in the height of the cage as well as the width. An ideal cage will be approximately 6 foot tall, 6 foot long and 3 feet wide. This type of chinchilla cage will give your pet enough room so that it can move around as much as it likes. There are many different cages that come with different levels so your pet can move around in as many different directions as it wants.
You can buy your cages made from many different types of material. But there are only very few cages which will be suitable. For instance, anything which is made of glass is not suitable because of the very poor ventilation. Because the chinchilla comes from the Andes Mountains, it is used to a cool and fairly dry atmosphere, glass cages and plastic cages are not suitable for this animal in this respect. Wooden cages are also not very good as chinchilla cages at all because the chinchilla is a voracious chewer; it will chew through the wooden bars of a wooden cage very quickly indeed. The ideal material for a chinchilla cage to be made from is wire mesh. Make sure that your wire chinchilla cage has not been coated in plastic as the chinchilla will more than likely chew away the plastic. Make sure that there is an area in the cage to use as its toilet. Also, you should supply the chinchilla with many different types of toys in order to try and keep them as occupied as you can. The chinchilla cage is going to be the home to your pet for the rest of its life, make sure it’s a good home.
Saving People’s Lives
When it comes to domestic animals, cat lovers claim felines are more superior and intelligent than canines because of their arrogance and their ability to enjoy their own company.
Dogs need humans to survive, so when it comes to the crunch, dogs have a master, cats have a slave.
Cats vs dogs… which are the fittest? Could either survive unaided? Well yes, cats could if they had to because of their ability to hunt for themselves, whereas dogs rely on humans to forage for them.
In the wild, cats hunt alone, but dogs hunt in a pack.
Furthermore, cats toilet train their young, dogs have to be taught.
But then, dogs have an amazing sense of scent. The dogs nose is a very sensitive structure and can sniff out scents which enable him to locate drugs and missing objects. Dogs can save people’s lives.
They can assist the blind, the hearing-impaired, the disabled.
They can save people from drowning (the average cat can’t even swim)
They can sniff out drugs, they can dig out people buried under rubble, snowdrifts and bombed-out buildings.
Elder Cats And Cat Urine Removal
As my cat gets older unfortunately I’ve had to refine my cat urine removal skills. For the most part she’s been good about using the litter box, but as she has gotten older every so often she has an accident near the litter box. The other problem is that she will get in the litter box but have her back end at the entryway as she dribbles outside the box.
Elder cats are infamous for having more litter box problems as they get older. Between joint problems, vision problems, urinary or other health problems they don’t always make it in the box like they used to. You’ll need to find the best cat urine removal process for you, but also be sure you take your cat to the vet to treat any problems that are treatable.
Havanese Dog Facts
While so many dogs out there can be described as cute, adorable or just downright cuddly, there’s probably no more beautiful dog than the Havanese. These extravagant little dogs are related to both the poodle and the Bichon and they trace their roots back to the island nation of Cuba. As far as appearance goes, the Havanese is small (although somewhat large for a toy breed) with floppy, rounded ears. The dog is perhaps best known for its coat which is infamously feathery, soft, and fluffy and often times wrongly billed as hypoallergenic. In addition, the dog is said to have an amazingly sweet and eager to please personality which they say makes Havanese dog training a lot easier than some of the other toy or specialty breeds out there. However, this is of course not to say that they are “simple” to raise, and many breeders and novices alike have found that the Havanese – like any other breed – requires a great deal of patience. But of course, that doesn’t make them any less cute!
