Magical History – A Brief Look Back
With magic, illusions, spells, tricks and ceremonials are usually performed for entertainment. It is a supernatural power which makes the seemingly impossible occur.
‘Looking Back’
In ancient Egypt, there was a magician named Dedi who performed in front of a crowd, where he supposedly beheaded two birds and one ox. He eventually restored the heads of these three animals.
Because of this, the Egyptians were considered to be the first magicians recorded in history.
As the popularity of magic developed, tricks involving cups and balls were shown to the public. Then, playing cards, silver coins and dice were added to their slew of magical tricks.
Later on, ancient Greek magicians invented tricks involving the human body. A trick where a performer thrusts a dagger through one’s arm without being hurt has been developed and shown in public places.
The ancient Chinese civilization also paved the way for magic. The “linking rings” is one of the earliest tricks ever invented. To begin with, a number of rings link themselves. The rings are made up of solid metal and the illusion is that they eventually unlink themselves.
‘Famous Magicians’
One of the greatest magicians of all time is Harry Houdini. He started as a trapeze performer in the late 1800’s and eventually became famous for his magical abilities.
He was an “escape artist” who bonded himself using locks or ropes and eventually extricated himself.
Spanish, Italian, British, French and American magicians presented their acts as magic regained popularity in the 1920’s.
‘Sawing a Woman in Half’
In 1921, the world first witnessed a magician saw a woman in half. British performer Percy Tibbles cut through a box containing his woman assistant. After the trick, she appeared without a harm.
This trick became even more complicated when the woman assistant was ‘operated on’ with her hands, head and feet in full view of the audience. The assistant was sawed in half using a power-driven saw, and was later restored without a scratch on her head.
‘Reaching a Wider Audience’
Before, magicians only performed in theaters which were open to the public where food and drinks were offered but the magic tricks were performed
without any fee given by the viewers.
By the mid-1900’s, they paved the doors for magicians to be ‘professional performers’ by requiring the public viewers to pay for watching magic shows.
In the 1950’s, television was invented so magicians were able to reach an even wider audience spectrum.
During the 70’s, Siegfried and Roy re-ignited the interest in magical tricks by making large animals disappear. David Copperfield is also a major player in the field of magicians who offered great entertainment to the viewing public.
Storing Video Games
Although I still have a lot of love for retro video games and the old arcade games, I’d be lying if I said I don’t love the newest generation as well. In the last couple of years I have owned a Playstation 3 and an Xbox 360. Because I am an adult, I have money to spend. As a passionate game enthusiast, this usually means that I buy more games than I should.
The only reason I have been forced to confront the size of my video game collection is because I have to store it. I didn’t realize that the numbers had crept up on me until I bought the new Batman game and then couldn’t find a shelf to put it on. And honestly, the storage shelving I had been using was not as adequate as I had thought, at least not for the disc format.
Until all games become downloadable, the disc is the game medium that we will be dealing with. Storing video games presents a challenge that anyone who has ever owned a CD will be familiar with: how do you use them frequently and keep them from getting scratched? It is the most annoying thing in the world to buy something, enjoy it, and then have it quit working because you were careless.
I am currently storing all of my games in binders that contain many sheets with plastic sleeves. Each sleeve holds one game. I believe this is the best method, provided you buy a binder that is big enough for your buying habits, and that you are responsible enough to put the game away when you’re done with them.
A couple of other warnings for anyone storing games in a binder:
Temperature
Do not leave that binder in places with temperatures hot enough to soften the plastic on the sleeves. I made the mistake of leaving mine in a car once in July. When I got to my friend’s house and unzipped the binder, the sleeves had expanded and sagged, causing a waterfall of Xbox games to spill out onto the floor. None of them broke, but they did sustain some scratching.
One game per sleeve
If you are an impatient person, you may be tempted to slip two or three games into one sleeve. Do not do this. This is the opposite of choosing a wise video game storage solution. It will almost certainly scratch your games, even if you face the side of the discs with the title and artwork towards each other. It is not worth the risk, unless you have unlimited funds to buy a new game every time you want to play it.
With a little bit of vigilance and some personal accountability, you shouldn’t have any problem making your games last a long, long time.
How I Use My Mini Greenhouse
Most gardeners are familiar with greenhouses and the benefits they offer. If you are a gardening enthusiast yourself, chances are that you know a great deal about them and what they can do. Not only do these structures provide protection from the often wild effects of Mother Nature, but they also help to provide a stable environment for the plants contained within. A smaller version of the traditional greenhouse, known as the mini greenhouse, serves a similar function, but without the cost and space required to build a larger structure. Mini greenhouses can be used effectively even for gardeners that don’t know much about indoor gardening. As you’ll learn in the following article, I’ve been able to produce some excellent results using a structure that I recently purchased.
I have always wanted to own a mini greenhouse, as I consider myself to be an avid gardener. Luckily, there was a sale at my local garden center recently, which meant that I was finally able to get one of my own. I ended up purchasing a free standing structure that was large enough for me to walk into and tend to my plants. It came with a heater and thermostat combination, allowing me to grow plants at any time of the year. It has been 8 months since I purchased the greenhouse and I have had no regrets since. Prior to owning a greenhouse, my orchids would not flower. This was unfortunate since orchids are my favorite plants to grow. With the greenhouse, I can now grow my orchids and I was even able to re-flower several of them. By growing plants in a greenhouse, it’s easy to provide the ideal conditions for my orchids, and I was even able to provide the perfect lighting by applying some greenhouse shading material.
If you are in the market for a mini greenhouse, try to find a local garden center that carries a variety of models. Alternatively, you can browse online to see the huge selection that’s available through a variety of independent retailers.
How to assemble the Airsoft Innovation Tornado Crash Impact Grenade
The invention of these one of a kind Airsoft grenade is truly god-send. This grenade is not your typical grenade. Just as the name implies the Tornado Impact Grenade spews out BB pellets on impact. This feature gives the grenade a deadly accuracy due to the fact that a target will not have time to run for cover.
Here’s a step by step procedure on how to assemble this type of grenade:
First of all, make sure all of the items are in the box. A box of the Airsoft Innovation Tornade Crash Impact Grenade should have the following:
1 pc grenade
1 small bottle of lube oil
1 pc base cap
1 pc top cap
4 pc trigger (1 thick cylinder, 1 thin cylinder, 1 half disc, 1 shin smaller disc)
1 trigger pin
First step is to assemble the trigger mechanism. Insert the trigger pin through the top hole of the top cap while squeezing the ring of the pin to lock it in place. Insert the thicker cylinder, the half disc, the shin and the thin cylinder (in this order) through the trigger pin that’s sticking out from under the top cap. Attach the whole trigger assembly on the main grenade by inserting the pin through the pin hole and lock by rotating.
The next step is loading the grenade with gas through the gas valve under the grenade. After loading the base cap should then be screwed in place. The BB pellets can be loaded through the holes on the side which spirals around and down the side of the grenade. These holes also serve as the payload delivery system.
When using the grenade, the trigger pin should be squeezed a little to free it from being locked. When the pin is out the trigger pieces are stacked inside the grenade and are compressed by the gas in place. The compression of the trigger pieces can only be destabilized on sudden impact which then misaligns the trigger pieces and releases the gas through the holes on the side and pushes out the BB pellets.
The only downside of this grenade is losing the trigger pin but all in all this grenade is a must have for CQBs and even field players. Read more about Airsoft grenades at TopAirsoftSniperRifles.com, the best Airsoft site to learn about every Airsoft weapon.

The Value of Collecting Bakelite Jewelry
Some ladies like to more than just wear their jewelry. Some use it to build valuable collections. Lovers of vintage bakelite appreciate the look and feel of the jewelry, but also realize that their jewelry is an investment. Just feeling the bracelet next to your skin can give you the experience of wearing something extra special. The feel of bakelite jewelry is unique, but it looks even more unusual because of the distinctive marbled color of the plastic. It comes in many colors and geometric shapes. Bakelite jewelry items are highly sought after and bought all over the world.
Bakelite is a synthetic plastic invented by Leo Baekland in the early years of the 20th century. It has been used to make many things, especially in the kitchen in the 1930s. The durability and strength of the plastic made it quite practical during the 1930s. The multitude of colors it was available in worked to brighten up some very dark days during the Great Depression.
There are still some antique Bakelite plastic ware kitchen items such as colorful sets of cutlery in a huge variety of colors. It was not long before jewelry makers and craftsmen realized the true potential of Bakelite plastic and started using it to make jewelry.
There are numerous types of vintage Bakelite jewelry to be found in many online auction houses, private collectors and even in collectibles shops. Bakelite jewelry doesn’t come cheap. Some larger bracelets are very intricately designed, with unusual etchings and drawings, and can easily cost upwards from $700. There are also smaller bracelet designs that are preferred by some ladies. Although they are not quite as hefty, they can still demand a fairly high price. These bracelets usually sell for around $600.
Amongst other pieces of vintage Bakelite jewelry items, there are earrings, necklaces, bangles, hair pins, hair accessories, coat pins, hat pins etc for the Bakelite addict.
If you decide that you would like to start a Bakelite collection, then be sure to buy from a reliable dealer. If you choose to buy on eBay, be sure to check the seller’s feedback score to ensure they can be trusted. Do your research before you part with any money, and check to see how long the seller has been in business, before you give them any money. Gift baskets for Easter Are the Best
Easter gift baskets are a wonderful holiday present. Not only are they filled with sweets and treats, but they are presented in a beautiful container that can be repurposed in a number of ways.
When I was a young girl, the Easter Bunny, AKA my loving parents, would always hide the basket for me to discover every Easter morning. It was my next favorite holiday to Christmas! The basket was always brimming with candies and its centerpiece was a wrapped gift, usually a stuffed animal or springtime toy.
Though that was years ago, Easter baskets are still as popular as ever, and they are not just for children. If you have been invited somewhere to share a holiday meal, an Easter basket makes delicious appreciation gift for your hosts.
Don’t let distance stop your celebration. There is a wide variety of Easter baskets available for purchase online, so you can send a special greeting and some sweet treats anywhere in the country.
Hallmarks of traditional Easter baskets are wrapped chocolates, candies like jelly beans and marshmallow chicks, and a brightly colored, plush bunny or chick. For a less traditional spin, try filling an Easter basket with gourmet foods and desserts or even health and beauty products or decor items such as candles.
If you decide to make your own Easter gift basket this year, keep the tastes of the recipient and the purpose of the gift in mind. Are you sharing your greetings with children or adults? Are the contents of the basket for one person or many to enjoy? A non edible gift may be the most welcome, such as some bubble bath and candles for a worn out hostess!
Easter is a special time for many families, and your choice of Easter gift items helps celebrate this time of light and rebirth with sweet and special treats. Enjoy the season!
What you need to know about woodworking power saws
It is said that creative and inventive people like ‘do it yourself’ projects. If you are such, then you will definitely not miss a tool kit in your home. As a matter of fact, there will also be several machines including manual and automated power tools. In most DIY projects, the probable material used in the construction will be wood. Therefore, I will discuss in detail about the kinds of saws that are used in this field.
As is the case in do it yourself ventures at home, the projects are relatively small. Cuttings to be done on small wooden splinters will need specialized saws so as to increase precision of the cuts. In this case, the jigsaw power saw will be the best of the power tools. This power saw is miniaturized enough such that it can be used to cut through thin pieces in neat and clean outlines.
Circular ones are quite huge and would rather be bought for big projects. The reciprocate saws can be said to be some of the best versions of the powered saws. This is because they can be fitted with several accessories that will allow them to cut any material. This advantage over other power tools make them all round cutters of wood, metal or plastic depending on blade affixed. They are also used to make non-linear cuts.
Most of these saws will not work on a lone status. A combination with others is needed to make a perfect finish. It is also important to know how your power tools cut. For example, there are some which cut along the grains while others are suited for across the grains; and none can be substituted for the work of the other. The manufacturer’s instruction booklet will guide on the proper use should there be a hitch to troubleshoot.
Five myths about wine dispelled
Wine has intrigued man for centuries. From being drank from barrels by the Vikings and English soldiers, it has now become a refined man’s drink. It’s not the sort of drink that is chugged down like beer, but it is something that can be enjoyed and appreciated.
There are a number of myths about wine, considering that a lot of people are self proclaimed sommeliers! We shall discuss a few of them here.
Myth #1: Wine will go bad if kept open for more than a day.
This is the most audacious myth ever. It has been claimed that wine will turn into vinegar if kept uncorked for more than a night. This is definitely not true. This sort of rumor has, in fact, led a lot of people to actually throw away very good wine thinking that it has gone bad. And a lot of people just don’t open wine bottles with the impression that they might not be able to finish it and that it will be a waste.
Myth #2: drinking wine will increase your chances of living longer.
Alcohol intake of any kind will only harm your liver. If you chug down wine in liters and expect to live a hundred years, you are very much mistaken. It has been found that wine does have certain ingredients which help in preventing clogging of arteries and also help keep the skin young. But you can get the same ingredients from a glass of grape juice, only there will be no alcohol in it to puff up your cheeks and cause liver cirrhosis.
Myth #3: uncorking a bottle of wine will help it ‘breathe’
It is true that you need to let your wine breathe. But simply uncorking a bottle and expecting it to do so is not right because the mouth of the bottle is too narrow to be of sufficient help. You need to use a decanter and let it stretch its ‘legs’… now I am sure you lost me!
Myth #4: If ‘legs’ are noticed in the wine, it is of high quality
Legs or tears are the droplets which will slowly stream back into the glass when you swirl your wine around. A more pronounced stream only shows that the alcohol content in the wine is high. It does not in any way show that your wine is of high quality.
Myth #5: The smell of the cork can tell you a lot about the quality of the wine
The smell of the cork is in no way related to the quality of wine. You might have been offered the cork by your waiter or sommelier at some restaurant, but they do this just to let you know that the cork is undamaged and not tampered with. If your cork is damaged, you can ask for another bottle since your wine is most probably doctored. And one more thing, you also should try to read the date on the cork. That date should match with the one on the bottle. This will show that the bottle has never been uncorked since it was bottled.
Plant Nanny Clear Watering Globe
Gardeners are always looking for new innovative products that take some of the burden away from their plant care duties. While a human touch is often necessary, there are some products out there that can give you a helping hand. Most of the products that come onto the market don’t live up to our expectations. When it comes to things like watering, you want a product that works every time. The Plant Nanny Clear Watering Globe is a device that waters your plants for you. Water is placed in the hand-blown glass globe which has a stake on the end. The stake is placed in a pot near the roots of your plant. Water is distributed through the hole at the bottom of the stake. The clear glass bulb allows you to tell exactly when it needs a refill.
The five inch globe is designed to be used with regular sized plants; this system can be used indoors or on a deck/porch. It is not designed to be used in extreme sunlight, as it will have a hard time keeping up with the evaporation and can dry out too frequently. Once in the ground, your plant will start to be watered immediately. The stake should be placed into the root area of the plant. Over time, the roots will grow around the stake which will help it use water more efficiently. The globe is clear to help you see when water should be replaced. Twelve ounces of water can be added to the bulb at any given time. One stake and globe set comes in a box to be used with a single plant.
This system is better in many ways than watering manually because the water is distributed through mechanical means. When the soil starts to dry, the bulb will release more water. This cycle continues until the bulb runs out. The Plant Nanny is the perfect solution for people who don’t have the time to water their plants. If you keep your plants inside a lean to greenhouse, they will be very safe from weather conditions too.
