When many students first start out in the world, they do not have much responsibility when it comes to money and they will spend any little bit they get on stuff that they do not need, without even thinking twice.
In order to prevent this from happening, you need to sit down with your student and go over some rules with them. Explain to them how important it is for them to be responsible with money. You may want to explain to them what could happen if they do not have enough money to buy food or pay rent.
