Are You a Candidate for Implants?

Have you had some teeth extracted? If you have missing teeth, replacing them is often a primary goal your Dentist in Memphis will have as they need to ensure that your speech is not being impacted and that your bite is not misaligned. Implants can become costly, especially if you need to have bone graphs that will be able to support the implants better.

Most of the implants that are used are called root-form implants. This is because they are made of titanium, which means they are very strong and extremely durable. A small screw will be attached directly to your jaw, which often requires bone graphs to build up the bone to ensure that it’s strong enough to support the implant. This can increase the cost of your implants.

After the screw is in place you will need to have an abutment attached to it. This is basically the replacement part for the core part of your tooth and it will be responsible for holding the crown in place. The jaw will need to properly grow around the implant and support in for it to work. This is why titanium is used because the jawbone typically accepts it as part of your body and will bond to it.

Implants rarely fail as they have a 99% success rate. Most of the problems that occur with implants will happen in the first year as your body may reject the bone graphs and you will need to start over with the implant process. Once the oral surgeon has completed the implant process you will go back to your Memphis Dentist to have them install the crown that will serve as your new tooth.  Implants give you a chance to have teeth again and many people prefer them over dentures as they are comfortable and they are just like having real teeth.
